Why you have to start a personal business venture now.

Layoffs are daily news now. The names Google, Microsoft, IBM, Starbucks, Home Depot used to be the companies considered to be the most secure places to work, with the best industry prospects. Now they are nothing more than the companies who have announced layoffs in the past 48 hours.

If these companies are letting companies go, so can yours, at any time.

I have talked at length about the benefits of having a personal business venture. Side job, moonlighting, whatever you want to call it. Go get one or make one soon. In addition to all the other advantages, it gives you control over an enterprise and income that only you control. It might not work at first, and your initial tries might fail, but the success or failure is yours alone. You are not dependent on a team of executives and managers above you making who-knows-what kind of decisions.

It does not have to take much money to get started. This ABC News article describes one story of starting a business with $100. Don’t try to copy that one, but there are dozens of ways to make something from nothing.

In the next few days, we’ll have a full post that will describe away to get a business going that you know will have customers begging for your services from day one. The only startup cost is that you will have to buy a newspaper.
